Dietetics
The Master of Health Sciences in Nutrition and Dietetics is a two-year degree that will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge to register with the NZ Dietitians Board and work as a dietitian. Dietitians provide medical nutrition therapy and personalised nutrition advice to people from various backgrounds and health conditions.
Dietitians work in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, clinics, community health centres, private practice, and sports organisations. As a dietitian, you will be working with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, so having good communication skills and cultural sensitivity is essential.
Entry
Entry into dietetics is competitive, and you will be selected based on your GPA (50% weighting) and interview (50% weighting). Nailing the interview is just as important as getting good grades! Up to 15 places are reserved for students studying the University of Auckland BSc in Food Science and Nutrition (Nutrition Pathway). Applicants are normally required to achieve a minimum GPA of 6.0 to be eligible to apply for entry to the MHSc in Nutrition and Dietetics.
